Yonex celebrating 40 years in the US
Tennis players will be forever thankful that on July 8, 1983, Yonex USA was established in Torrance, CA, where they've remained ever since. Over the past 40 years, they have grown tremendously and continue to improve on the company philosophy - to be far more than ordinary.
We could not have done it without supporters like you!
From now until the end of the year, they will be providing forty facts about Yonex to give more insights about their history and identity.
Founder, Minoru Yoneyama, was born in Japan in 1924.
In 1947, Mr. Yoneyama started a business creating wooden floats for fishermen. He was soon priced out of the industry when other companies started making fishing floats for cheaper prices with plastic materials. Humbled by the setback, Mr. Yoneyama vowed to never be left behind by technological advances.
In 1957, Yonex began its first foray into sporting goods by making badminton racquets as an OEM manufacturer.
In 1961, Mr. Yoneyama started manufacturing badminton racquets under the brand name, "Yoneyama Manufacturing Company."
Tragedy struck the company in 1963, when the factory went up in flames, burning it to the ground. Mr. Yoneyama assured clients that a newly-rebuilt factory would be up-and-running in three days - and that's exactly what happened!
And they have gift to you!
