Have a watch:
Adhering to strict Covid-19 protocols and without a live in-person audience, the AKC National Championship Dog Show presented by Royal Canin is back!
The AKC National Championship is the largest dog show in North America and this year marks the 20th anniversary of the show. The canine competition makes its network debut on ABC on Sunday, January 17th, opposite playoff football, still giving dog-lovers something to cheer for besides touchdowns. If the obstacle course and trick dogs, aren’t enough for you, there’s also a puppy competition! You can also learn what breed would be best for your family.
Dogs from 49 states as well as the District of Columbia will compete in Orlando, Florida for the largest cash prize ($50,000) in dog sports. This year’s AKC National Championship features competitions for a wide range of breeds, varying in sizes – from the cute small dogs in the Toy Group to the powerful canines in the Sporting Group. And, new this year is the AKC FastCAT Invitational which showcases pure canine speed.
Gina DiNardo, spokesperson for American Kennel Club, has had life-long involvement with purebred dogs and serves as Executive Secretary for AKC. She was just five years old when she showed her first dog at age five. Gina has more than 40 years of experience in the sport of purebred dogs.
Carolyn is a morning sports anchor for CNN and thrilled to join the AKC for this year’s National Championship. In addition to covering the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, Carolyn has covered the Olympics, Super Bowl XLIX, Triple Crown horse racing, NASCAR, the Tour de France, and Dew Tour coverage. She also served as host of NBC’s Weekend Sports Update.
