Nike, Ralph Lauren, Levi’s, Zara, and Victoria’s Secret are the most listed clothing brands on resale sites, according to new research.

T-shirt brand Chummy Tees has analyzed the number of listings of 100 top brands across major online marketplaces eBay and Depop to determine which are the most popular to resell.

Nike is the most-listed clothing brand online.

The findings reveal Nike has the most online listings with over 1.1 million, excluding shoes, across eBay and Depop. Nike ranks fourth on Depop and second on eBay with over 219,000 and 893,000 items, respectively.

Iconic American brand Ralph Lauren ranks closely behind Nike with almost 1.03 million listings, most of which are on eBay (929,000 items listed). It has more clothing listed on eBay than any other brand.

Levi’s takes third place with over 646,000 listings found across both marketplaces. It is far more popular on eBay than Depop, with over 572,000 listings compared to 74,000.

Zara ranks fourth, with over 592,000 items listed. It is the most popular brand for Gen Z, with over 289,000 items listed on Depop. The Inditex-owned brand ranks eighth most-listed on eBay with over 302,000 products.

Lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret takes fifth place with over 452,000 listings. Its 16,700 products on Depop reveal its declining popularity among younger shoppers, compared to the 435,000 on eBay.

Adidas, J. Crew, Topshop, H&M, and Free People rank sixth through tenth.

Brown clothing is the most sellable online

With increases in the cost of living nationwide, many are looking for ways to soften the squeeze on their wallets – as searches for ‘side hustles’ have increased 160% since the pandemic started in March 2020.

The research reveals the most sellable clothing based on the percentage of listings that were recently sold and completed for each type and color.

Data shows brown clothing sells fastest across menswear and womenswear, with over one in five (21%) listings sold. The rate is even higher for men, with over one in four (26%) compared to one in six (17%) womenswear items.

Beige and multicolor clothing are tied second for the most attractive hues to buyers with a 17% sell rate.

Blue, black, and green are tied in fourth with 16% of listings sold.

Purple, grey, and orange clothing are the seventh through tenth easiest colors to sell.

Outerwear and pants are the most sellable menswear items, with 41% and 40% sell rates, respectively.

Lingerie and outerwear have the highest purchase rates among womenswear, at 23% and 22%, respectively.

Josh Neuman, Founder of Chummy Tees commented on the findings: “Our research reveals the most popular brands to sell online, with fascinating differences in popularity between eBay and Depop. While Nike ranked highest, Zara is surprisingly the most-listed on Depop, which is popular among Gen Z and Gen Alpha. The data also reveals that brown, beige, and multicolored clothing is easiest for sellers to shift. These findings offer insight into the most popular items to sell online in 2024 when side hustles are becoming increasingly popular in the face of spiraling living costs”.
