Aira app makes shopping easier for the visually impaired

Aira, an app offering visual assistance to individuals who are blind or have low vision, is now available for free in all US Walmart stores. The app connects users with visual interpreters to help with tasks like navigating stores, finding sales and selecting the shortest checkout line.

Aira is an app that connects people who are blind or low vision to professional visual interpreters for secure access to visual information, anytime, anywhere.

“I think the thing they’re going to gain the most from our partnership is this demonstration to the world that Walmart and Aira really do think about the customers they serve,” said Everette Bacon, the chief of blindness initiatives at Aira, who is blind himself. “That’s a testament to the kind of service Walmart has provided for years and wants to continue to lead on.”
