Artificial Intelligence with Dr. Dario Gil

Rick is joined by AI expert, Dr. Dario Gil for a quick talk on the state of AI.

Have a listen:

Artificial intelligence was once a topic debated among academics – but now, it’s changing the way businesses work, and the way consumers interact with the world. IBM Research just issued a recap of the top papers it published in 2018, many of which contributed to what are being identified as this year's top 10 achievements in AI. These include AI’s new abilities to:

Debate humans on complex topics while limiting the influence of emotion, bias and ambiguity Bring art and science together to develop new novel fragrances that have never been smelled before Detect unconscious bias in training data and models used in the workplace

The evolution of AI is expected to skyrocket even further in 2019 with what IBM Research calls “broad AI.” While today’s AI is typically focused on solving specific problems, AI will evolve significantly to learn more generally and become even more versatile. As AI continues to evolve and be implemented around the world, some of the game-changing AI achievements in the industry has roots in an IBM Research lab. With more than 3,000 researchers in 12 labs located across six continents, IBM Research is one of the world’s largest and most influential corporate research labs. IBM Research works to advance the field through an extensive portfolio of research focused on three areas: towards human-level intelligence, platform for business, and hardware and the physics of AI.

Topics discussed:

How has artificial intelligence changed in 2018? How is it affecting the daily lives of regular people like you and me? What were some of the top AI achievements of 2018? What was IBM Research’s role in many of these achievements? What can we expect to see artificial intelligence do in 2019? Where can our viewers go for more information?
