Talking the Eco Car 3 competition from Pomona

Four years is a long time to work on anything, especially a car. For the past 4 years, 16 student teams from across North America were challenged to reengineer the iconic Chevrolet Camaro and turn it into a hybrid-electric vehicle, while maintaining the looks, performance and safety the car is known for.

Who did the best job? Joining Rick from Pomona, California, the site of the Eco Car 3 competition, are Sterling Smith from Georgia Tech and Mr. John Haraf, Director of Hybrid Vehicle Performance and Calibration at General Motors. A great interview as Georgia Tech is doing themselves proud.

For more than 30 years, engineering students have participated in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions - turning standard vehicles into fuel-efficient, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Many former students are now working for American automakers and are shaping the future of transportation and mobility. These are the next-gen, future leaders of the auto industry and they have a great story to tell!
