CES: Floyd Mayweather dubuts new VR boxing platform

Nobody makes entrances like boxers do, and that was proven once again by boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather, at CES in Las Vegas this week. Mayweather, flanked by body guards and members of his entourage, entered a Las Vegas ballroom, ready to make his mark in the growing market segment of fitness tech.

"This is a chance for anyone to get in the ring with me, virtually," said Mayweather at a press conference on CES Tuesday, also touting the coming of his Mayweather Boxing + Fitness Gyms.

Mayweather discussed his plans to open up several gyms, as well as that he was planing the launch of a Mayweather Boxing & Fitness VR experience that would, it was said, allow people at home to follow along with Mayweather’s workout routine.

Available at first, exclusively at Mayweather Boxing + Fitness tech-enabled gym locations, the flagship location of which will be opening later this month in Los Angeles, the virtual workout is just one mere session but spans a full twelve week program of sessions which feature Mayweather as your coach. These are in addition to the standard boxing workouts available at the gyms.

Mayweather's likeness is right in front of you giving your tips and encouraging you to burn calories.

You start out training then, players get to lace up the gloves and take on the The Champ.

The Mayweather Boxing + Fitness Virtual Reality program provides high intensity cardio and skill-based workouts through a virtual environment, with Floyd serving as coach. I tried it for a few minutes, and it is a workout!

Mayweather says this is just the start as the app will expand to include the likenesses and skills of 50 different boxers.

“Boxing gave me a platform to become a world-class athlete, and I’m using those skills to build a global fitness platform that will help people to train better and smarter,” explains Mayweather, who has set a goal of opening up to 500 gyms around the world.

Again, what an entrance for the bocing champ into the tech universe.
